STANDING POSITION
1 June 2008
National Integration Movement (NIM) Bali condemns FPI’s brutal
violence
on Pancasila Commemoration Day 1 June 2008
National Integration Movement (NIM) Bali hereby strongly condemns
the inhumane assault launched by Front Pembela Islam (FPI/Islam
Defender Forum) towards the National Alliance for Freedom of
Religion and Belief (Aliansi Kebangsaan untuk Kebebasan Beragama
dan Berkeyakinan – AKKBB) on the Pancasila Commemoration Day, 1
June 2008. The violence has caused deep concerns on the survival of
the Indonesian nation, and thus NIM Bali declares that:
1. We condemn the brutal and inhumane conducts of the FPI to the
AKKBB at the National Monument (Monas) Jakarta, Indonesia on
Sunday, 1 June 2008. The violence has caused physical and psychic
trauma to the extent that the many victims are still hospitalized to
date.
2. We demand the Indonesian government (including the President of
the Republic Indonesia, the Head of Police Department, the Attorney
General, the Supreme Court Chief Justice, etc) to firmly act upon
the FPI whose anarchy has violated the Republic of Indonesia as a
law-based country.
3. We demand that the authorities disband the FPI and any other
organizations that support violence and disturb Indonesia’s laws and
regulations.
4. FPI’s attack and assault on the commemoration of Pancasila is a
deliberate betrayal to the Republic of Indonesia.
5. The National Integration Movement (NIM) urges the entire people
of Indonesia to work together to prevent radicalism and
fundamentalism in the name of any religions due to its lethal
potentials to disrupt the nation’s unity and integrity.
With this standing position, we once again urge the authorities to
uphold the laws and regulations in our beloved, Pancasila-based
country. May God the Almighty bless us all.
Long live Indonesia!
